What percentage of the house value can be used for the build?

In truth, there is no limit to the amount spent on a project and it is up to the individual. However, if you are specifically hoping to add value to your property, a landscaped garden can increase the total value of your property by between 5% and 7%.

Therefore, a £200,000 property should expect to spend at least £14,000 and a £1,000,000 property could spend between £50,000 – £70,000 giving an increase to the value of the property by the corresponding amount.

But what is the whole value of garden art? Even the monetary value cannot compare to the true benefits gained to the mind and soul, including a longer life and reduced stress!

Why should I have the garden designed?

Would you build a house without an architect? Similarly, to achieve a spectacular garden, thought and planning needs to have taken place so that the elements blend in and the scene produced is pleasant and awe inspiring. Why would you want any less than that?

The garden designer has the knowledge to mix and blend both hard and soft materials, ultimately benefiting the garden owner.

Even if the garden is constructed piecemeal over a period of time it should be held together by the design and the accompanying paper work so that the finished construction gels together well.

What can I do if I have a problem with an APL member?

What can I do if I have a problem with an APL Contractor?
APL contractors have a code of conduct which they are monitored on. They are all members of trustmark which have their own independant arbitrators, for disputes between the contractor and clients, to bring the correct way forward on which both parties must adhere to.

I don’t need a landscaper - I just need someone to help tidy my garden.

Charles Hogarth Landscapes also offer a maintenance service. This includes lawn care, pruning, weeding and general garden maintenance. It may be that you just want a seasonal clean up, or you may require regular maintenance work. Whatever your needs, we can help. If you have invested hard-earned money on landscaping your garden then it is worth considering a regular maintenance contract to keep it in pristine condition.

Why should I hire a landscaper - could I not do the work myself?

An enthusiastic amateur with reasonable DIY skills could easily tackle many landscape tasks. However, a trained professional will know which materials to use, what plants are ideal for your environment and how to get the best out of your outdoor space. An experienced landscaper will also be able to accurately estimate projects, anticipate problems and be less prone to costly mistakes or delays.

Why should I expect a guarantee for my work?

For peace of mind, clients are often spending large sums of money on the construction of the garden. Outside the purchase of a car it might be a similar sum or more and they want to know that snags and faults will be put right. The choose of contractor is very important which as Designer I can lead you in the right direction with accredited Landscapers.

What are the advantages of using a company registered with the APL?

All Members of the Association of Professional Landscapers are reputable landscapers, who are TrustMark-registered. They have agreed to comply with the Customer Charter, which signifies their promise to deliver the highest levels of service to customers. Members operate businesses built upon practical landscaping experience and have a proven track record in satisfying the needs of their customers. APL members must comply with current legislation, including insurance cover, health and safety and employee welfare. And to ensure that members maintain the very highest standards of professionalism, an approved independent inspector audits their businesses annually.
