Planting styles and inspiration
Dream gardens can still be a traditional arrangement of borders and beds that provide a
palette of colour and texture throughout the year.
Every garden we design and build is unique to each owner. The finishing touch is the planting
scheme which is carefully planned to reflect your personal taste and the desired style and
atmosphere in the garden.
From cottage style planting and traditional mixed borders to a Mediterranean feel or more
contemporary planting I can recommend a planting scheme that suits the soil and location
in the garden to help your plants thrive.
Herbaceous perennials are such good value that I do like to create a place near the house for
them, often surrounding the terrace where the colour and scent can be enjoyed at every opportunity.
With careful planning and some general maintenance herbaceous perennials come back bigger
and stronger every year with a stunning flower display from May to September.
I advocate mixing herbaceous perennials with grasses and bulbs to extend the interest throughout
the year. With grasses available in many shades of blues, greens and golds they make perfect partners
in the herbaceous border and add winter interest with magical frosted seed heads. Carefully chosen
shrubs and trees add structure and an evergreen backbone to the scheme to complete the picture for
you to enjoy all year round.
